The Vestry 1. The Parish of the Holy Trinity, Nevada City, California, is part of the One, Holy, Catholic, and Apostolic Church, in the Anglican Tradition. Since our founding in 1854 by the first Bishop of California we have been an incorporated parish in union with the Episcopal Church in the USA. For over 100 years we have been a constituent parish of the Diocese of Northern California. 2. The Vestry of Trinity Church is the legal Board of Directors of the Church Corporation. According to Church and Civil Law, the Vestry is responsible for the financing the parish's life, budgeting for its programs, and caring for its property. 3. There are nine members of the Vestry. Each year at the Annual Meeting of the Parish three Vestry members are elected for a three year term. Vestry members may not serve consecutive terms, but can be elected again after a one year break. 4. In addition to the Vestry's legal role, the Rector, who is according to Church Law both the Chairman of the Vestry and the immediate spiritual authority of the Parish, at his discretion can share his spiritual responsibilities with the Vestry. Therefore, the religious and spiritual ministry of a Vestry member is as important as the legal responsibilities. 5. Because of this, Vestry members first of all must have a grasp of and be committed to the Christian faith set forth in the Book of Common Prayer of the Episcopal Church and commonly understood in the historic Anglican tradition (see Our Basic Principles). 6. All Vestry members are expected to have made a personal commitment to Jesus Christ and have an active spiritual life, and to demonstrate spiritual maturity in daily living, with the help of the Holy Spirit. 7. All newly elected Vestry members must meet with the Rector four times during their first year to answer any questions they may have about the parish, and to discuss their life in Christ. 8. Vestry members are expected to loyally support their fellow Vestry members, the parish's clergy, its organizations, and programs. 9. Vestry members are expected to make a personal commitment to pray each day for the Parish, its clergy, organizations, and programs. 10. A Vestry member must have a teachable heart and a cooperative disposition, and must have demonstrated an ability to work effectively and harmoniously with others. 11. Time commitment: a. Attendance at 7 out of 9 of Vestry meetings, under normal circumstances b. Participation in the Budget Process and Stewardship Campaign c. Be active in parish life or a specific organization, but not see themselves as specially representative any specific group or organization d. Attend an orientation meeting and help set master calendar for the year. 12. A Vestry member must be a pledging member of the congregation. 13. Vestry members must attend Church services with regularity. 14. The Vestry assists with and attends important parish events, as possible. 15. Vestry members must be willing, on an occasional basis, to make time available to help with the parish's special projects and events as time permits. | |
